Christ vs. The World
25th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor.”Ps. 113
To be Christian means to be a disciple of Christ-those who follow Him, receive His abundant Life, and share in His salvation. Christ came not to condemn but to save. That is why we must accept His teachings, even when they oppose the teachings of the world, which is influenced by the Enemy.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may discern the will of God-what is good and perfect.”Romans 12:2
Here we see the contrast between the path of the world (driven by the devil and the flesh) and the path of Christ.
- On Truth
The World says: “There is no absolute truth; everyone has their own truth.”
Christ teaches: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” (John 14:6)
Catechesis: Truth does not change with ideologies or trends. Truth is a Person—Christ Himself. - On the Meaning of Life
The World says: “Happiness comes from pleasure and from having more.”
Christ teaches: “What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?” (Matthew 16:26)
Catechesis:The true purpose of life is to love and serve God. - On Freedom
The World says:“Do whatever you want, as long as you don’t hurt anyone.”
Christ teaches: “Everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin… but if the Son sets you free, you will be truly free.” (John 8:34, 36)
Catechesis: True freedom is living in God’s grace, not in slavery to sin. - On Love
The World says: “First love yourself, then love others.”
Christ teaches: “No one has greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13)
Catechesis: Christian love is self-giving and service, not selfishness disguised as love. - On Humility
The World says: “Be successful, step on anyone you must to get to the top.”
Christ teaches: “Whoever wants to be first must be the servant of all.” (Mark 9:35)
Catechesis: True greatness is found in serving, not in dominating.
Conclusion: Being a Christian means living differently—choosing the path of Christ over the path of the world. Each day we are called to decide: Will I follow the world’s way, or Christ’s way?
