He Will Guide You Into All The Truth

4th Sunday of Easter

“The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.”Ps. 23

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life—or it can also be paraphrased by saying that He is the way of truth that leads to life. We as his disciples must be distinguished by our love for the Truth, for only in this way will we seek it, and only the one who seeks it finds it. Only the one who goes to the doctor can benefit from him; the same applies to God.

It is true that, as a consequence of sin, clumsiness and falsehood entered our world-darkness, sin, and blindness in our minds. For this reason, Christ came to be our guide in the desert, to lead us to the promised land, to the Father. He is the only Good Shepherd:

“No one comes to the Father except through me”Jn 14:6

“Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life”Jn 8:12

But if you do not follow Him, you will be lost.

All of us are subject to various forms of deception and lies while we are in this world; even the holiest can make mistakes and be wrong, both because of a lack of light and direct access to the truth, and because of the natural human limitation that prevents us from seeing reality from every angle—we only see partially. We can be full of misconceptions and prejudices about many things, even about people; we may be convinced that a certain food or pill is good for us when it is actually harmful, just as we may judge the most sinful person as good and the holiest as bad.

But in the face of this reality, knowing that we do not have direct access to the truth, we must be guided by Him—with wisdom and by invoking the Spirit of truth—in order to discern it among the many possible lies and deceptions in the world. For only the one who seeks it with a sincere heart will be able to find it, both in the natural and passing things of this world and in the supernatural truths revealed by God.

Many people ask questions, as they did even to Jesus Himself, but not with a sincere heart that desires to draw near to the truth. Rather, they do so out of a desire to ridicule, to make the other look bad, to test them, or to defeat them with apparent arguments—thus reinforcing their own prejudices that close them off to the truth.

We must all be seekers of the truth, and for that we must learn to listen—Only the truth sets us free and leads us to the experience of the Kingdom of love, joy, and peace, which must be our highest priority. Only in the truth will our vision be sound, enabling us to judge correctly, to discern good from evil. My sheep listen to me and follow me.

In this search, divine revelation must hold a special place, for it is what reveals the truth in its fullness:

“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth”John 17:17

“…I will send you the Spirit of truth, and He will guide you into all the truth”Joh 16:12-13

Virtues, Explained!

True humility does not require us to ignore, underestimate, or hide our gifts—it merely demands that we use these gifts rightly. with the knowledge that they are from our Creator and meant for His glory, not our own.
