Jesus: the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Fifth Sunday of Easter

This was a long time ago before everybody had a cell phone or a GPS system in the car. People used to get lost a lot while driving to an unfamiliar place. I was one of them. I used to go in circles trying get to my “final destination.” I was stubborn and wanting to get there on my own, I usually refused to stop for help and directions. Of course it was until I found myself totally lost and full of frustration that I decided to ask for directions. However, there were times that even when I asked for help, either people gave me the wrong directions or I did not get them right and ended up being lost again. Thank God we don’t have that problem anymore thanks to the global positioning systems or GPS. In our spiritual life we know our “final destination.” We all want to go to heaven. The question; however is, How do we get there? Jesus gives us the answer to the questions when he says: “I am the way, the truth and the life.” In other words, he is our GPS. Jesus the Way: He does not only know our position in our lives, but he wants to take us to our “final destination.” He has even reserved a place for us when we get there. Jesus is the Truth: he will not mislead us or let ourselves get lost. Jesus the Life: I have come that you may have life and have it to the full. Don’t be stubborn like me. Stop, take a moment of your life and ask Jesus in prayer: Lord am I going in the right direction? Do I need to make a U-turn or any other turn in my life? Believe me, you can trust Jesus, he will not let you get lost. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Blessings,
Fr. Abel Loera, Pastor
