Long Live Christ the King!

Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe

“Whatever you did to the least ones, you did to me.” Matthew 25:31-46

This Sunday we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. This is also the last week of the liturgical year which means that next Sunday is the first week of Advent. Can you believe it? Christmas is just around the corner! Anyways, today our church celebrates this beautiful feast that manifests the authority and power of Jesus Christ as king and Lord of the Universe. Excuse me??! King and Lord of the Universe someone who was born in a manger? Someone who died on a cross and was crowned with a thorn crown? Yes, indeed! As Jesus himself tells us in today’s gospel “my kingdom does not belong to this world.” When we think of king we think of a throne, a kingdom, power and subordinates. But again, Jesus kingdom is different. Jesus kingdom is a kingdom of peace, of justice and
love. He has no other throne but our hearts. He wants to be our king, He wants to be our Lord and, definitely, he wants to be our savior.

Christ Jesus, Victor over the forces of evil, give us each the courage to stand against the horrible lie of the world that happiness is found apart from you. Give us the courage to proclaim your life with every action of our lives. Help us to be as individuals and as a Church, people of integrity, people who demonstrate with their every action that you, Jesus Christ, are our King. Long live to Christ the king!!
