God Is Your Best Ally
Fourth Sunday of Lent
“Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you!”Ps. 137
God is Love, meaning there is no selfishness or personal interest in Him, which means that everything He wants for us is the best, the true good, because He loves us, wants us to be fulfilled, happy, and with Him for eternity.
“Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, lack of everything, dangers, or the sword?”Romans 8:35ff
Nothing can separate us from His love, only ourselves. SO THAT THOSE WHO BELIEVE IN HIM MAY HAVE ETERNAL LIFE.
So why do we suffer and why so many imperfections and limitations? All this is a consequence of sin, which made us lose paradise. Our rebellion against God, our disobedience to Him is a rupture with Him, and it is what brought us all misfortunes, illnesses, and death, and sin which is the root of all human sufferings, wars, hunger, etc.; if we listened to God, we would live in paradise; in this world in an imperfect way, but perfectly for eternity.
That’s why God teaches us the way of life. The commandments are like traffic signs that seek our good, they are the advice of a mother who loves her child and therefore takes him to the doctor or asks him to take the medicine, even though the child does not understand or want to take it because it tastes bad or because the injection hurts.
God is the one who loves us most in the universe, He is pure love and only wants our happiness, as He explicitly tells us many times:
“I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete”John 15:11
He deserves our absolute trust.
So why this path of beatitudes? Why those commandments that seem like restrictions and limitations against our freedom? Trust in Him like Abraham, willing to obey God even without understanding, because He knows more than us in our fallen nature due to sin, we see little and distorted. We must trust Him blindly, like a three-year-old child must trust his mother, who asks or does things for his own good, because she loves him.
Even when we may not understand everything, we must trust God completely. Our ego has problems with what it doesn’t like, like the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes; blessed the persecuted, the rejected, and mistreated for my sake… But it’s understandable that this happens in this world, because there are many fools who prefer darkness to light, lies to truth. But it is in your interest to stay and remain on the side of light and truth, because in it is true happiness, despite the consequences it may bring in this world, as it is the path to eternal life.
Go to frequently to meet the lord in prayer; like in the mount Tabor He will show you his divinity and will strengthen you to remain faithful in his love for ever.
